
Port Blair, May 20 : Directorate of Social Welfare remains dedicated to promoting a healthy and drug-free society through its innovative initiative, the Awareness cum Fitness Programme, commonly referred to as the Hasgulla Club, as part of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan” (Drug-Free India Campaign). The event, which took place on Saturday from 5:30 AM to 7:00 AM, was met with enthusiastic participation from the local community, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering a healthy and drug-free society.
This initiative, popularly known as the Hasgulla Club, aims to combine the benefits of physical fitness with drug awareness. The program was led by Shri. Ravinder Rao, Yoga teacher from “Art of Living,” along with certified Yoga instructors and doctors from the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), South Andaman. Together, they provided comprehensive yoga classes, emphasizing the holistic benefits of yoga and meditation in combating drug addiction and promoting mental well-being.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director of Social Welfare, delivered an inspiring speech, shedding light on the critical role of the Hasgulla Club in building a drug-free society. He elaborated on how yoga and meditation serve as powerful tools to improve the mental health of individuals recovering from addiction, reinforcing the importance of a supportive community environment.
Dr. M.K. Mahato, a renowned Doctor from IRCA, South Andaman, highlighted the substantial benefits of yoga and meditation in the battle against drug addiction. He underscored the availability of the 112 Helpline number, 24*7 service dedicated to counseling individuals struggling with addiction, offering guidance and support to help them reclaim their lives.
The Directorate of Social Welfare invites all interested individuals to join the transformative Hasgulla Club program.
