Port Blair, Mar 15: The Gram Panchayat Harinagar has reached out to the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, highlighting pressing concerns related to the ongoing work on National Highways -4 (NH-4). The Panchayat’s Pradhan has penned a letter, urging immediate action to address the following issues affecting the general public:
Blocked Drains: During the execution of earthwork on NH-4, drains alongside the road have been obstructed, leading to flooding in essential areas like the Government Middle School in Billiground and residential areas during monsoons. This stagnant water poses safety risks and disrupts daily life. The Panchayat requests urgent clearance of drains and construction of footpaths, particularly at Billiground Bazar area.
Toilet Block and Bus Stand: The absence of suitable toilet facilities near the existing bus stand by the Panchayat Bhawan necessitates the construction of a modern toilet block cum bus stand near NH-4. This facility is vital for residents and visitors alike.
Bus Queue Shelters: The Panchayat seeks the construction of modern bus queue shelters at three specific locations along NH-4 for convenience:
Near Swadeshnagar Bridge at Harinagar, Ward No-4.
Near Nani Karmakar House at Harinagar, Ward No-6.
Near Anganwari Center at Jaipur, Ward No-1.
According to Pradhan, despite repeated appeals, no action has been taken, aggravating the problems of local residents. The Panchayat emphasizes the urgent need for intervention to mitigate potential damage.
