Port Blair, 20 Feb: The One Stop Centre under the Directorate of Social Welfare organized an online awareness session through zoom emphasizing on Women Empowerment, Gender equality, Legal Rights and about different Women protection Schemes. The creation of awareness among the objective of the online awareness session is to public on different govt schemes.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (SW), stressed on the importance of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment which are essential for achieving inclusive & sustainable economic growth. Likewise, Director (SW) while addressing the online audiences, emphasized that a fair & sustainable development can only be achieved by boosting women and girl’s empowerment. The Director also highlighted Gender equality is not a just matter of Social Justice but also a powerful tool for economic growth and bridges gender gaps to fight against stereotypes, discrimination in the society as well as in the workplace.
The program was attended by NGOS Pankh, Hope Foundation & UDDAN representatives of PRIS, AWWS, general public, SHGS.
The online introduction session was carried by Mrs. Santhi Murugesan, Central Administrator, One Stop Centre followed by a brief on the objective of One Stop Centre Scheme.
Mrs. Komal Anand, President, Pankh NGO highlighted balancing Women in family and in professional is the overall quality of life. During in the session she elaborated on the challenges faced in balancing and how women can successfully balance responsibilities in profession and at home along with taking care of children by planning and sticking to a time schedule.
Mr. Anish Badaik. Para Legal Personnel/Lawyer of One Stop Centre briefed on Rights of Women under Domestic Act 2005. During the session, he also elaborated on Domestic Violence, its Causes, types of Abuse, how one can file a complaint and who can file complaint against whom, right to file a complaint under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. Further the Duties and functions of Police officer and Magistrate, Remedies available under Domestic Violence Protection Order, Residence Order for residing at Matrimonial House, Act, Monetary Orders, which include maintenance for herself and her children, Temporary custody of children and Punishment available under DV Act were also highlighted.
