Port Blair, Jan 31: Long Island residents are urging swift action for the immediate posting of a doctor for Long Island. The urgency arises as the previous doctor, who was stationed in Long Island, recently left the position on January 26, 2024, for undisclosed reasons.
In the past, Long Island has faced unfortunate incidents where patients with high blood pressure and heart issues reportedly lost their lives due to the absence of a doctor in the local hospital. The community is concerned that, without a prompt replacement, emergency situations might lead to severe challenges for patients on Long Island.
When contacted Dr. Suja Antony, the Director of Health Services (DHS), acknowledged the absence of a contractual doctor at Long Island’s Primary Health Center (PHC). She assured residents that in case of emergency, there is a senior nurse available to manage the situation. For more critical cases, arrangements can be made with CHC Rangat, which is at a reasonable distance.
Reassuring the residents, Dr. Antony stated that the process of sending a contractual Doctor to PHC Long Island is underway and expected to be completed within the next 7 to 10 days.
