Port Blair, Jan 03: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, has raised the issue related to the lack of seating arrangements outside the operation theatre at G B Pant Hospital at attendants. The Member of Parliament, during a visit to the hospital, had observed a large number of attendants compelled to wait outside the operation theatre sitting on the floor, without any provision for seating.
Expressing his concern, the Member of Parliament has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of A & N Administration mentioning that unlike major hospitals in mainland India, G B Pant Hospital lacks a waiting room for attendants. This absence of basic facilities leaves attendants with no choice but to sit on the ground or stairs, adding unnecessary challenges to an already stressful situation, especially during urgent medical needs.
He highlighted the immense stress experienced by attendants accompanying patients undergoing operations. The lack of proper seating arrangements exacerbates their difficulties during this crucial time.
Recognizing the urgency of the matter, he requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to ensure the provision of adequate seating outside the operation theatre at G B Pant Hospital.
Furthermore, the Member of Parliament drew attention to the issue of storage for belongings of patients and attendants. Currently, there is no provision for lockers outside the operation theatre, compelling individuals to place their belongings on the floor.
In light of these concerns, he has urged the Chief Secretary to take immediate action to provide seating arrangements for attendants outside the operation theatre, offering them a more comfortable waiting space during stressful times. Additionally, he has requested the installation of lockers outside the operation theatre, where patients can keep their belongings before entering inside the operation theatre.
