Port Blair, Dec 12: The State President of BJP in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, has written a letter to the Lt. Governor and the Chief Secretary, urging an impartial enquiry against medical negligence and demanding adequate compensation from the LG’s Relief Fund for the family of late G. Rajesh Rao.
The incident occurred on December 9, 2023, during a physical test for the post of Mazdoor under the Forest Department at Rangat. Mr. G. Rajesh Rao, a 29-year-old candidate, collapsed while running a distance of 11 kilometers in the scorching sun. Despite immediate efforts to provide medical attention, the situation worsened.
He added that the medical officer at C.H.C Rangat sent a distress signal for air evacuation at 02:30 PM, but due to alleged negligence and lack of coordination between the Health Service and Forest Department officials, the evacuation did not take place in time. Instead, the patient was referred to G.B. Pant Hospital in Port Blair by road, a journey known for its challenging conditions.
Tragically, Mr. G. Rajesh Rao succumbed to his condition on the morning of December 10, 2023, at G.B. Pant Hospital. The BJP State President contends that the negligence of concerned officials in providing timely air evacuation contributed to this unfortunate loss of life.
The letter to the Lt. Governor and Chief Secretary emphasized the need for an immediate impartial enquiry to investigate the circumstances leading to the delayed evacuation and subsequent demise. Mr. Bairagi called for fixing responsibility and taking necessary action against the individuals found negligent.
In addition to the enquiry, the letter urged the authorities to provide adequate compensation to the family of late Mr. G. Rajesh Rao from the LG’s Relief Fund. The compensation is seen as a means to offer solace to the bereaved family during this challenging time of grief and shock.
