Port Blair, Mar 03: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to establish a trauma center at GB Pant Hospital as a matter of priority.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament mentioned that there is a pressing need for a trauma center at the GB Pant Hospital in Port Blair.
He pointed out that a trauma center is a specialized medical facility equipped to provide emergency medical care to patients suffering from traumatic injuries. These injuries can be caused by accidents, natural disasters, violence, or any other sudden, life-threatening event. A trauma center has the necessary medical staff, equipment, and resources to provide immediate and effective treatment to these patients.
The Member of Parliament mentioned that at present, there is no trauma center available to the public in Port Blair. In the event of a major accident or disaster, the lack of a trauma center can lead to delay in medical treatment, which can have serious consequences for the patients. This is particularly concerning given the location of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the potential for natural disasters.
He added that the GB Pant Hospital is the largest government hospital in the region, and it is ideally positioned to serve as a trauma center for the entire population of Port Blair and surrounding areas. “By providing a trauma center at GB Pant Hospital, we can ensure that the public has access to emergency medical care in the event of a traumatic injury,” he said.
He requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to establish a trauma center at GB Pant Hospital as a matter of priority.
He said that this would be a significant step forward in ensuring the health and safety of the residents of Port Blair and surrounding areas.
