Port Blair, Mar 03: The news of suspected suicide of two tourists, a middle-aged man, and a lady, has shocked the locals of Andaman and Nicobar Islands today. The incident took place probably last night inside their hotel room at Hornbill Nest Resort of Port Blair.
The deceased persons have been identified as Mrs. Priyanka Singh, 40 years, and Mr. Yug Singh Rathore, 47 years. The two were visiting this island as tourists, but many questions have been raised since their death.
According to reports, the two had arrived in Andaman on February 23, 2023, for a 10-day trip. This morning they were supposed to leave the hotel and for that purpose the hotel staff tried to contact them multiple times, but they were not responding. The staff had to use a master key to open the room, when they found the man hanging with a cut injury in his hand, while the lady was found dead on the bed. Immediately, the hotel staff informed the police station in Aberdeen, and the bodies were taken to GB Pant Hospital and kept in the mortuary.
Although it is clear that the man committed suicide by hanging but it is not clear how the lady has actually died but according sources she might have consumed poison.
There are several questions that are raised from this incident, including whether the couple had planned the suicide and came to Andaman for their last few days of peace. Another question that has been raised is whether the couple had purchased their return tickets, or they knew that they wouldn’t go back?
The reason for the couple’s extreme step is also unclear. Were they facing some problems with something or were they trapped in some cases? It is also unclear whether the couple was really from Bangalore, as they had mentioned during their stay in the hotel.
The police have not given any official statement on the incident, and further details are awaited.
