
Port Blair, Feb 21: Thirteen MPs, including Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Congress leader Mr.Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, RJD’s Mr. Manoj Jha and CPI-M’s Mr. John Brittas, have been nominated for the SansadRatna Awards 2023.
This is the second time Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has been nominated for this award; earlier he was awarded the prestigious “SansadRatna Award 2022” in New Delhi on 26th of March 2022.
The 13 MPs include eight from the Lok Sabha and five from the Rajya Sabha, including three retired members.
A jury committee chaired by the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs & Culture Mr. Arjun Ram Meghwal and co chaired by former Chief Election Commissioner of India Mr. S Krishnamurthy also nominated two departmentally related standing committees and a distinguished leader under the special awards category. The committee comprises eminent parliamentarians and civil society members.
The SansadRatna Award is based on the performance of MPs in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The award is given to MPs who have performed well in areas such as raising questions, private members bills, and initiated debates.
Among those nominated are Mr.Bidyut Baran Mahato (BJP, Jharkhand), Dr Sukanta Majumdar (BJP, West Bengal), Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma (INC, Andaman Nicobar Islands), Dr Heena Vijayakumar Gavit (BJP, Maharashtra), Mr. Gopal Chinayya Shetty (BJP, Maharashtra), Mr. Sudhir Gupta (BJP, Madhya Pradesh) and Dr Amol RamsingKolhe (NCP, Maharashtra) for their performance in the 17th Lok Sabha under various categories.
