Sri Vijaya Puram, November 1: Mr. Jitender Narayan, District President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Sri Vijaya Puram District, has taken up the long-pending demand of the residents and youth of Ward No. 17, Dollygunj, with the Lt. Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
In his letter to the Lt. Governor, Mr. Jitender Narayan stated that Ward No. 17 is one of the largest wards of Sri Vijaya Puram city, including Marine Colony, Old Shiv Mandir Area, Loknath Colony, Telugu Basti and Shiv Colony. A large number of youth, students and women reside in this ward, but there is not a single Hi-Tech Government Gymnasium or Fitness Centre in the entire ward.
He further stated that, due to the lack of a proper fitness facility, the youth of the ward are getting diverted towards mobile addiction, drugs and other anti-social activities. They have no platform to channelise their energy in a positive direction. Similarly, women and girls of the ward have no safe and dedicated space for fitness and self-defence training, leading to an increase in lifestyle diseases like obesity, diabetes and hypertension.
The establishment of a well-equipped Hi-Tech Government Gymnasium will have multi-fold benefits. It will keep the youth away from mobile and drug addiction and will make them physically and mentally fit and disciplined. It will directly contribute to the Fit India Movement and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan of the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. Separate timing and a separate section for ladies will ensure women empowerment, safety, fitness and self-confidence. It will also become a centre of positive community engagement and sports talent scouting.
Mr. Jitender Narayan has requested the Lt. Governor to issue necessary directions to the concerned Department for the establishment of a Hi-Tech Government Gymnasium with separate facilities for ladies and gents in Dollygunj, Ward No. 17. He said that revenue land is available which can be utilised for the same.
The youth and residents of Ward No. 17 have expressed hope that the Administration will take immediate and positive action on the demand.
