
Port Blair, Dec 30: The 79thanniversary of the hoisting of the National Tri-colour for the first time on the Indian Soil by NetajiSubhas Chandra Bose was celebrated today. It was on this day i.e. December 30, 1943, NetajiSubhas Chandra Bose had hoisted the National Tri-Colourfor the first time at Port Blair, declaring the Islands, the first Indian Territory freed from the British rule.
To mark the Day, a State Level function was organized by the Department of Art and Culture at Flag Point thismorning, in which theMinister of State for Health& Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati P. Pawar and Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency hoisted the National Flag amidst patriotic fervour. The Flag hoisting function was attended among others by the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Shri Nikhil Kumar, Adhyaksha, ZPSA, Smt. PramilaKumari, Chairperson PBMC, Smt. KavithaUdhaya Kumar, Senior Officers of A&N Administration, prominent citizens, tourists and general public.
