Port Blair, Feb 06: The main events of MILAN 2012 ended yesterday with a spectacular multi-national city parade at Port Blair. Today the programme formally ended with departure of foreign naval ships for a war game in Andaman Sea, called PASSEX.
MILAN, a biennial congregation of Navies at Port Blair featuring 14 countries is being organised at port Blair from 01 February to 06 February 2012.
Naval Ships and delegations representing Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand are participating in MILAN 2012.
Yesterday, the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lt. Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh took the salute of the International City Parade, which was witnessed by hundreds of invitees and thousands of general public.
The Marina Road of Port Blair city was chosen for this International City Parade, for which entire area was given a facelift and decorated tastefully with flags and banners.
Riveting displays like SU-30 display, Air Warrior Drill, Sky Diving, formation fly past by aircraft, demonstration by Marine Commandos, Search and Rescue Operation and illumination left people spell bound.
Apart from these, march past by contingents of all participating navies. Shows by visiting countries include ‘Lion dance’ by Singapore and Saman & Sajojo dances by Indonesia were added attraction.
There were also shows by the Dog Squad, Dare Devils Bike Riders, Malkhamb, Band as well as Khukri, Bhangra and Lehzium dances.
