Port Blair, Feb. 5: Mr. Ranjit Vikram Savarkar, Chairman of Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, Mumbai and great grand son of Veer Savarkar has urged the government to declare Andaman and Nicobar Islands as National Pilgrimage.
Addressing a press conference at Port Blair on Saturday, Mr. Savarkar said that Government should subsidize the travelling costs so that all Indians can visit this Place. In addition, Government should construct a Tourist Home in order to provide these pilgrims a lodging and boarding at affordable rates.
Mr. Arun Joshi, President of Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak and Mrs. Manjiri Marathe, Treasurer were present along with eight delegates from Smarak are presently visiting Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
During the Press Conference Mr. Savarkar added that a replica of the Veer Savarkar Cell and other artefacts of the National Memorial Cellular Jail will be created at
the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak at Mumbai.
He added that a bust of Veer Savarkar brought from Mumbai has been handed over to the Airport Authority of India through the Member of Parliament, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray. The Chairman further said that an 11 -member delegation including the architect arrived here on February 2 and visited National Memorial and took measurements of artefacts to maintain the originality and also planned the design to create the replica.
Mr. Ranjit Savarkar further added that there is another special reason why A & N Islands should be declared as National Pilgrimage. “On one hand, the mainland India is presently divided on the basis of religion, cast, creed and language; Only in Andaman we see a society, which has raised itself above all these paltry issues and thereby recognizing only our Nationalism as their sole identity. This is a lesson that all Indians have to learn from Andaman. And that’s why now it’s more important than ever, that Main Land Indians should visit Andaman, carry the positive inspirations with them back and work in order to gain our lost glory,” he said.
