Port Blair, Nov 07: Residents of Kishorinagar and Pashimsagar area under Diglipur Tehsil have been facing immense difficulties for several years due to miserable road conditions in the area.
The internal roads from Kishorinagar and Pashimsagar main road to the residential area have become unmotorable for all kinds of vehicles, the residents of this area said. The school students studying coming from the remote pockets in the area are facing nightmarish experiences due to the poor road conditions for a 07-kilometre stretch, they lamented. Traveling to school every day, school going children have witnessed the road deteriorating –from minor potholes to larger ones, barely allowing people to walk over the years, they rued.
While on the other hand, many accidents were reported in the last several years due to the poor road conditions in these areas, the residents alleged. Due to the horrific road conditions, residents face difficulties during any emergency situation as it is challenging for the ambulance to drive on the poor roads in the area, the residents further bemoaned.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mrs. Rita Dhali, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Kishorinagar as well as Mrs. Aparna Roy, Zilla Parishad Member of Paschimsagar constituency said that they have requested the concerned officials of the APWD and the Administration several times, but her pleas fell into deaf years so far.
Urging the Administration they both again implored the concerned authorities to take initiatives for the improvement of the existing roads in rundown condition and also to construct new roads on priority for the larger interests of the residents especially the school-going children in the area.
