Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 13: Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman, Campaign Committee–Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC), has urged the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to take urgent and concrete measures to address the persistent traffic congestion from Dairy Farm to Garacharma.
In a letter dated 12 October 2026, Mr. Bhasker highlighted the growing inconvenience faced by commuters, residents, schoolchildren and emergency medical services due to increasing vehicular traffic along this vital corridor.
Demanding a long-term solution, Mr. Bhasker has called for the construction of a flyover from VIP Road towards Garacharma, wherever technically feasible, along with road widening and the development of alternative connecting roads to Bathu Basti and Garacharma.
Drawing attention to the airport exit at Lamba Line, Mr. Bhasker pointed out that the movement of vehicles from the airport frequently creates bottlenecks on the main road. He urged the authorities to coordinate with the Airports Authority of India and undertake suitable road-widening near the airport area to ensure smoother movement of vehicles.
Expressing serious concern over the difficulties faced by patients, he highlighted the presence of the District Hospital at Garacharma and warned that traffic congestion could delay ambulances transporting critically ill patients. He has requested the authorities to remove the existing road dividers along the affected stretch until a suitable alternative arrangement is implemented, so that emergency vehicles can move without unnecessary obstruction.
Mr. Bhasker also drew attention to the numerous schools situated along this route, where traffic congestion during school opening and closing hours creates long queues and inconvenience for students, parents and office goers. He called for strict action against unauthorised parking of four-wheelers and two-wheelers, removal of roadside encroachments, proper regulation of hawkers, and immediate repairs to potholes and damaged road surfaces.
Referring to the history of road development in the area, Mr. Bhasker noted that major road-widening work had been undertaken during the tenure of former Lieutenant Governor Mr. Vakkom Purushothaman between 1993 and 1996. Nearly three decades later, with a substantial increase in the number of vehicles, he stressed that the existing infrastructure requires urgent upgradation to meet present-day needs.
