Diglipur, Oct 06: As per report, the first National Dolphin Day was celebrated on 05th October, 2022 by Diglipur Forest Division with active participation of local elected representatives, general public, students, government officials and local media. The Forest Division displayed a Tableau on Dolphin along with a 10 km bike rally from Aerial to Navin Nagar via Subhashgram.
Mr. Dipankar Mistry, Pramukh, Diglipur Panchayat samiti graced the occasion as the Chief Guest who flagged off the rally earlier in the day. The rally consisted of 60 bikers carrying the message of Wildlife conservation. A formal function was held at Forest Club, Navin Nagar wherein other PRI members of Subhashgram GP and Diglipur GP also remained present.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest Mr. Dipankar Mistry called upon the fellow citizens to extend their active hand in wildlife conservation and to render every possible support to the Forest Dept. in protection of the natural resources. During the program various cultural events were performed by the school students and an informative documentary show on Dolphin was screened on a projector.
Speaking on the occasion, the DFO (IFS) Diglipur Mr. Kuldeep Sharma emphasized upon the importance of Dolphin in the marine ecosystem and role of various stakeholders in its conservation.
Mr. Ajit V John, ACF welcomed all the dignitaries and guests to the formal program whereas Mr. JM Lobo, RFO Diglipur proposed the formal vote of thanks to all the guests.
Later in the day, a fishermen sensitization program was also conducted at Durgapur jetty wherein the fishermen were sensitized about the role of Marine Dolphins in our life. During this interaction program, various Dolphin Mitras were also selected and they were registered by the Forest Department for providing any critical information about the marine dolphins and their conservation aspect from time to time, the report said.
