Billyground, Dec 09: In several past issues, Andaman Sheekha had highlighted about the pathetic condition of Thoratang Nallah and Swadesh Nagar Bridges of Middle Andaman. Andaman Sheekha had also updated readers about visits of senior officers to the sites after publication of news by this newspaper.
Now Sources in APWD has informed Andaman Sheekha that the new steel Bailey bridge is almost ready for inauguration. According to highly placed sources the contractor of the work, Ravi Construction a Port Blair Pvt. Company, has been asked to finish the work before 15 December as most probably the Lt. Governor will be opening the bridge on any day between 15 to 20 December 2012.
“We are extremely grateful to Andaman Sheekha for raising this issue again and again. Because of regular media reports the Administration took up the work instantly and the bridge is almost ready now,” Mr. Uttam Mandal, Ex-Upadhyaksh of North and Middle Andaman Zilla Parishad said in an email to Andaman Sheekha office today.
Meanwhile the work for construction of a new bridge at Swadesh Nagar is also going on and hopefully soon the bridge will be repaired and it will bring scores of smiles on the faces of people living in North and Middle Andaman and also ensure safety of innocent lives.
“Thanks to Lt. Governor, who took the matter of Thoratang and Swadesh Nagar Bridge seriously after reading reports in Andaman Sheekha, and ordered construction of new bridges,” Mr. Gauranga Das, a TMC Ward Member, Shantipur Village told our Middle Andaman Correspondent.
