Port Blair, Jul 13: It was a massive challenge for the captain of MV Shakti –II cargo vessel to berth at Car Nicobar Port today due to adverse weather conditions. The cargo ship reportedly reached near Car Nicobar port at around 7.00 AM but could safely berth at Car Nicobar Jetty around 9.00 AM.
Sources said that due to bad weather the Cargo ship drifted towards the shore for a brief period but later the skilled officers of the ship managed to Port the ship at jetty safely. While some people claimed that the ship ran aground for a brief period, there are others who claim the ship did not run aground at all.
Berthing at Car Nicobar becomes very challenging during adverse weather conditions due to high swell in sea and heavy wind. Luckily today the cargo ship managed to berth safely, bringing huge relief for authorities of Car Nicobar. Berthig of Cargo ships at Car Nicobar is crucial because the Island depends completely on cargo, brought to the Island by Cargo ships.
