Port Blair, Nov 30: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Chairman of ANCOFED has urged the Managing Director of National Agricultural Coop. Marketing (NAFED) to extend of Price Support Scheme for procurement of Copra in A & N Islands beyond 31st December, 2012 upto 31st March, 2013.
In a letter addressed to the NAFED MD Mr. Sharma said that with this not only the farmers will be benefitted but this step will also save farmers from the exploitation of private traders.
In his letter he said that though the Price Support Scheme was ordered to be implemented from the beginning of the year 2012 but due to some Administrative reasons we could implement the scheme in the islands from June, 2012 and as a result the farmers could not get the benefit of the scheme from the very date of declaration of the scheme.
“Besides, it is also seen that production of copra in the islands in this year is much more comparing to the previous years which has adversely affected the price of copra in the local market which now ranges from rs.2000/- to Rs.2500/- per quintal,” Mr. Sharma said.
