Port Blair, Nov 30: Air Marshal PK Roy, AVSM, VM, VSM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command, accompanied by the Commander, Coast Guard Region (A&N) visited Mayabunder on 29 Nov 12. The CINCAN was received by the Commander Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 9 (Andaman) and Commanding Officer (Desig) of ICGS Mayabunder.
During his visit, the Commander-in-Chief reviewed various ongoing and planned work projects in the station and also interacted with the personnel of the Coast Guard Detachment Cell, Mayabunder. The CINCAN expressed his appreciation over the enthusiasm shown by the personnel despite various constraints as the station is classified as a Super Hard Station and also distributed sweets to them.
The CINCAN also reviewed the progress of activities related to commissioning of the Coast Guard Station, Mayabunder, scheduled in end Dec 2012. Expressing his concern over the quality of life, he has advised the District Commander to explore the feasibility of hiring suitable accommodation for single and married personnel at Mayabunder.
The Commander-in-Chief also visited CG ship Durgabai Deshmukh berthed at Mayabunder for Operational Turn Around (OTR), during the course of routine deployment in Northern Group of Islands. During interaction with officers onboard ship, he discussed various operational issues and lauded the efforts put in by the Coast Guard in maintaining high state of vigil in A&N Islands including the successful apprehension of a large number of poachers and human traffickers in the recent past.
