Port Blair, Nov 23: The Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM and the First Lady of the Islands, Smt Bhawanee Singh today hosted a reception at Raj Niwas for students of far-flung remote Islands, who are in the town to participate in the Science Exhibition & Cultural programme-‘Gyanodaya-2012’ and the sports event, being held at ITF ground and Netaji stadium. Most of the students representing seven zones of the Islands including Diglipur, Mayabunder and Rangat in North and Hut Bay, Car Nicobar, Nancowry/Chowra/Katchal, Car Nicobar and Campbell Bay in southern group are in the Port Blair town for the first time and were elated to see Raj Niwas.
Interacting with the students, he stated that by coming to the town for participating in the sports event and science exhibition & cultural programmes and after their interaction with their fellow students of the town, the students of far and remote Islands had not only got exposure but developed bonds of friendship and camaraderie that will last for lifetime. He further stated that direction had already been given to the Education department to organize educational tour in mainland and give opportunity to the students of far and remote Islands to participate in the tour so that they can get further exposure. He further assured them that all school facilities will be provided to students of far-flung remote islands. A photo session with students of far and remote Islands was also held on the occasion.
The Chief Secretary, senior officers and about 140 students of far and remote schools of the Islands participated in the get-together function.
