Port Blair, Apr 12: Long ago the ANIIDCO had constructed milk booths in several localities for distribution of fresh milk to the people of Port Blair area and the idea was a great hit. But later due to various reasons the milk booths were shut down one by one.
The Milk booths Y Narayan Junction and Khaitan Kala Mandapam (Junglighat) were immensely popular among local residents.
Now people of Prem Nagar region are demanding for reopening of the milk booth for the people of Junglighat and Prem Nagar area as they can’t trust the quality of milk they receive from private suppliers. Adding to the pain often the ANIIDCO milk supplied in pouches also remain unavailable in the market.
“Reopening of ANIIDCO milk booths will be very convenient for the residents and senior citizens of any particular locality. Moreover, keeping such booths unused for years is also a waste of money,” said Mr. Aziz Ur Rehman, Councilor of Ward No. 06.
He added that milk booths and Green shops should be reopened by ANIIDCO.
“If ANIIDCO has no plan to reopen the milk booth then the booth should be given to Self Help Groups (SHG) so that they could run it and earn some money, which will also lead to employment generation,” he added.
When contacted a senior officer in ANIIDCO told Andaman Sheekha Daily that the ANIIDCO hasn’t received any such demand from the public. He assured that if there is a demand then ANIIDCO will look into the matter.
