Port Blair, Apr 04: The Model Career Centre under the aegis of the Department of Labour, Employment and Training has organized a Career Guidance Programme on the topic of “Civil Services Examination” intending to educate the students and aspirants of the Islands about the syllabus, strategy and methodology to crack civil service exams at the Tagore College of Education Auditorium on 04th April 2022.
More than 350 aspirants from different colleges, schools and other interested youths of the Islands were present.
On the occasion, Mr. Suneel Anchipaka IAS, DC( SA) & Secretary (RD & PRI) was Chief Guest while Mr. Hari Kallikkat IAS, Secretary (L & ET) & ADM (SA), Mr. R.Kalaivanan IPS, ASP (SA) and Ms. B.Yashaswini, IAS, AC (U/T) presided over the programme as facilitators.
The Chief Guest Mr. Suneel Anchipaka IAS, DC (SA) & Secretary (RD & PRI) while addressing the gathering mentioned that the sole objective of this orientation programme is to motivate the aspirant students of these Islands to achieve success in civil services exam. He expounded that the civil services exam is considered one of the most challenging exams in the country and it is not only because of the knowledge in the variety of subjects being tested but also because of test of perseverance, dedication, discipline, and determination. Among other challenges sustaining motivation during preparation is the key determinant of the success in civil services exam. To succeed in the exam, one must have a proper plan and executable preparation strategy. An executable strategy acts as a constant motivator for the aspirants of the civil services. He appealed to the participants to draw up the right plan and believe in smart work to crack the civil services exam.
Mr. Hari Kallikkat IAS, Secretary (L & ET) & ADM (SA) has briefed comprehensively about the pattern of civil services exams. He spelled out that one must start preparation in advance strictly as per the syllabus provided by the UPSC to clear preliminary and main exams besides reading and noting national daily newspapers especially editorial columns and perusal of NCERT textbooks from 6th std to 12th std. There are several myths that only toppers can crack the civil services exam but the fact remains that even a dedicated aspirant can crack the same with adequate dedication. He emphasized that the civil services exam would not test academic brilliance beyond the syllabus but would test your perseverance, adaptive skills, courage and positivity.
Ms. B Yashaswani IAS, AC (U/T) elucidated that it is ideal to read current affairs in the morning, prelims in the afternoon, study for the optional subject in the evening and round it off with Mains subject at night and one must evaluate their preparation at regular intervals and sufficient time need to be spared for testing through practice and mock interviews at regular intervals which will act as a feedback mechanism in rectifying mistakes.
Mr. R. Kalaivanan IPS, ASP (SA) explicated that the UPSC conducts the Civil Services Exam to recruit suitable candidates for IAS, IPS, IFS and other allied services. Lakhs of aspirants apply for the exam, yet only a few achieve the feat therefore the aspirants of civil service must develop the source of inner motivation and inner resistance and resilience.
The achievements of IAS officers who made significant social changes in society are displayed in the mode of standees in the Tagore College of education auditorium with an object to motivate the students to venture into the civil services.
Concluding the program, the aspirants and teachers from various schools/colleges expressed their gratitude for conducting such a beneficial program and requested to conduct the same at regular intervals. Mr. Hari Kallikkat IAS, Secretary (L&ET) gave instructions to the department accordingly.
