Port Blair, Mar 30: The National Students Union of India’s State General Secretary Mr. Saurav Nair has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration seeking him to direct all colleges of A&N Islands to display their budget online on their websites to introduce transparency in their income and expenditure.
Mr. Nair said that all government colleges in A&N Islands receive financial assistance from the Administration. But neither students nor even teachers of these institutions were ever told about the quantum of grant received and how and where these were spent.
Mr. Nair said putting the budgets online would help check bad management of funds by authorities. He said many colleges/universities in the country had already put their budget online for better transparency.
Mr. Nair also demanded for holding of “Students Panchayats’’ every month in the presence of Secretary (Education), A&N Administration to discuss issues pertaining to the interests of students.
