
Port Blair, Feb 17: Highlighting the problems of boat operators of Baratang Island of Middle Andaman, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma today wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration and requested him to direct the Assistant Commissioner of Rangat to visit Baratang Islands at the earliest and complete the survey for these 25 Fiber boats.
In his letter he mentioned that for the 25 fiber boats the survey by the Surveyor PMB is already over and other necessary documents are also clear, the only thing required now for these 25 Fiber Boats is a survey by the Assistant Commissioner of Rangat, N&M Andaman.
He added that Local youths of Baratang Island have taken loans from banks and now they are facing hardship in paying EMI to banks.
The Member of Parliament added that due to COVID-19 all boat operators have suffered heavy financial loss as Tourism was closed for a long time due first, second and third COVID-19 waves as well as other restrictions.
He pointed out that the tourist season will end in Andaman in hardly one and a half months and within this one and a half month the boat operators have to earn money for their family, for EMI.
Mr. Sharma mentioned that if the survey by the Assistant Commissioner of Rangat is carried out at the earliest, in next one and a half months the owner of the fiber boats will be able to earn some money for their family, for EMI and also will be able to give employment to nearly 75 other youths.
