
Port Blair, Dec 19: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) has launched its membership drive across the Islands. As part of this drive, the District Congress Committee, South Andaman on Saturday organized a mass joining programme cum membership drive at Dairy Farm. The function was organized under the leadership of DCC President Mr. V.K Abdul Aziz and Congress leader Mr. Joga Rao.
The ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder attended the programme as Chief Guest while ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. G. Bhasker was the Guest of Honour. A total of 256 people, mostly belonging to the fishermen community and few from BJP joined the Congress party. The membership was made available to people through both online and offline mode.
Welcoming the new entrants, Mr. Halder said Congress’s policies, working atmosphere and public dealings have been widely accepted by the general public, for which they will vote Congress to power in upcoming municipal and panchayat elections. He said special focus of this drive is to reach out to the weaker sections of the society and associate them with the party and its programmes.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bhasker said “Large number of people are joining our party due to the under-development of their localities and the dismal performance of BJP leaders”. He appealed people to participate in the membership drive to bring about pleasant changes in the Islands and said that Congress’s ideology is dedicated to uphold the country’s constitution and its democratic values.
NSUI State President Mr. M.A Sajid, South Andaman Mahila Congress Coordinator Smt. Zubaida Begum, DCC General Secretary Mr. Abhibhushan Ghosh, PYC Ex-State General Secretary Mr. Tanmay Mallick, DCC Secretary Mr. Simson and several other Congress leaders were present on the occasion.
