Port Blair, Nov 21: On the occasion of Child Rights Day today (also known as World Children Day) the Chairperson & Members of UT Commission for Protection of Child Rights convey their warm greetings to each and every child in these Islands and beyond.
November 20 is an important date in the history of Child Rights as it is the date in 1959 when the United Nation General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.Since 1990 the day also marks the Anniversary of the date when both Declaration and Convention on Children Rights were adopted by UN.
Our Children are our most important assets and the future of the Nation yet they are the most vulnerable citizens of our Society. We owe our children a safe, secure and happy life full of opportunities and equalities to actualise their Rights to Survival, Development, Protectionand Participation.
The Commission appeals to members of Civil Society Community at large and all the Stakeholders to join hands and to work together in ensuring a better life for each and every child, since every child is special and every child is unique.
This year since we are also celebrating Aazadika Amrit Mahotsav, this is indeed a great opportunity to recognise the Rights of children.
