Port Blair, Nov 17: Residents of Tushnabad Village today staged a protest and blocked the main road near Bengali Basti at Tushnabad Village in South Andaman District against failure of authorities to maintain and repair the road, which is in horrible condition. Because of the protest movement of vehicles was disrupted for quite some time today.
It is learnt that the villagers of Tushnabad staged protest since 6.30 AM in the morning and demanded to repair the road at the earliest. The villagers alleged that they have been suffering a lot since last many years due the damaged road.
The protesting public urged the authorities concerned to understand the pain of villagers and demanded to permanently repair the road at the earliest.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha villagers said that repeated petitions in recent past to the concerned department to repair the road, yielded no results. They said that they have been forced to stage today’s protest as there was no positive response from the side of authorities.
As per details later the Dysp Bambooflat and Executive Engineer, RCD Wimberlygunj along with Tehsildar reached the spot and tried to convince the villagers. The Executive Engineer, RCD, APWD reportedly gave a written assurance to the villagers that the potholes developed in the state highway -II starting from Tushnabad Junction to Tirur will be repaired with stone aggregate and bitumen as per norms specified, as and when the weather improves and existing roads get dried up. The EE assured that all the works will be completed by the end of January 2022. After the assurances the protest was called off. Protest was reportedly led by Mr. Anand Amrit Raj Ex Upadhyaksh ZPSA and Mr Balram Singh social worker Collinpur.
