Port Blair, Nov 11: Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, INTUC highlighted various grievances of the Work Charged employees to the Chief Engineer, Andaman Public Works Department, laying emphasis on the issue related to giving regular appointment to the casual workers engaged on daily wage basis for substantially long period in the Workshop, Water Section, Road Construction Divisions etc. of APWD.
Mr Sharma accompanied with office bearers of the Union and the workers of APWD met the Chief Engineer, APWD on 6th November and demanded for payment of Non-PLB (Ad-hoc Bonus) for the year 2011-2012 to all such casual workers who have worked for more than 3 years with 240 working days each year.
Further Mr Sharma also demanded for extension of graded promotional scheme to the ML/Jeep Drivers as made applicable by the A&N Administration to the Bus Drivers of Directorate of Transport and Jeep Drivers/LVD of Electricity Department.
Lastly Mr Sharma requested him to fill up all vacant posts in work charged establishment of APWD particularly the Work Charged welder, Mechanics, Assistant Mechanics, Pump Drivers, Assistant Pump Drivers etc. as they are lying vacant for quite longer period. Mr Sharma said.
The Chief Engineer, APWD has assured the delegation that he will look into the grievances of the workmen projected by the President, INTUC and settle them as per merit giving priority to the issues pertaining to service matter of the Workmen.
