Port Blair, Nov 16: The South Andaman District Administration along with the Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULBs, Andaman and Nicobar Administration held a State Level Conference of Rural Sanitary Workers engaged by the Gram Panchayats for carrying out Solid Waste Management activities. The event was attended by more than 200 sanitary workers attached to Gram Panchayats of South Andaman district who were appreciated for their work by distribution of ration kits donated by AkshayaPatra Foundation.
With the continuous efforts of DC (South Andaman)/ Secretary (RD) Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IASAkshaysPatra Foundation came forward to distribute ration kits to the needy people of Andaman as a measure of support during the Covid times.
Shri Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Additional District Magistrate was the Chief Guest. SDM and AC(U/T) graced the event as Guest of honour.
In the inaugural address,the Additional District Magistrate appreciated the Sanitary Workers for their selfless service to the society. He categorically placed on record the exemplary work done by sanitary workers during the time of COVID pandemic in dealing with Waste generated from isolation centers, quarantine houses and covid care facilities.
Honouring their service, the ADM distributed free Dry Ration Kits to all Sanitary workers and expressed his humble gratitude to them.
Later, as a part of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), various technical sessions on the effective practices for Solid Waste Management were conducted and the efforts being taken for achievement of the vision of Zero Waste Islands were outlined by the Nodal officer SBM(G).
District Administration appreciates the sanitation workers for their continuous service during COVID pandemic and AkshayaPatra for the donating free ration kits.
