
Port Blair, Nov 08: Journalists of Indian Journalists’ Union (IJU), New Delhi on a tour of the islands on Monday interacted with the local Journalists at Andaman Teal House. During the interaction, the local mediapersons apprised the visiting Journalists about issues and challenges the local Journalists had to face in the post Covid-19 situation.
Mr. Geetartha Pathak, President, Indian Journalists’ Union informed the local mediapersons about various welfare schemes implemented by the Govt of India for Journalists. He informed that apart from Govt of India, various States governments have been implementing welfare schemes for Journalists, including medical insurance scheme for Journalists and compensation by government in the event of death of a Journalist.
Earlier, Mr. K Ganeshan, President, DNA (Proposed) welcomed the visiting Journalists of IJU and informed about the issues and difficulties faced by the local Journalists to run their newspapers in the islands. He said that post Covid-19, the media here has been facing difficulties, both in terms of dip in private and government advertisements, causing huge financial losses and the un-supportive behavior of the administration towards local media.
