
Port Blair, Nov 5: A project named as Neela, was formally inaugurated under the aegis of the Education 2.0 program at Marina Park here today. This innovative project has been designed for the conversion of various birds which are rapidly becoming extinct. Besides preparing to establish eco-friendly bird feeders for the protection of the same envisions to instal eco-friendly bird feeders on trees at public parks.
In the function at Marina Park, Deputy Commissioner South Andaman, Mr. Sunil Anchipakka was the chief guest, Mr. Kishore Kshirsagar Lakshman, Secretary PBMC was the guest of honor and Mr.Mohan Vinod, AATO President was the special guest.
In his address, Mr. Anchipaka congratulated Education 2.0 and the team led by its Founder Mr. Dev Kumar Thapla. The DC noted with appreciation that apart from such programs, they have also been participating actively during the pandemic on various occasions. He said “Andaman & Nicobar region is a special place for diverse reasons where we can find a variety of birds which are hard to find in mainland India”. So this is a very good initiative and in collaboration with PBMC, it is poised for becoming a successful pilot project, Mr. Anchipaka added.
AATO President, Mohan Vinod said that it’s a great initiative and a very unique concept and extended all possible support to Mr Dev Kumar and his team who, he said, have always tried to do something different in Andaman.
Earlier, the program started with the address of Founder of Education 2.0, Mr.Dev Kumar Thappla, who stated that the project Neela, under the banner of Education 2.0, has taken a small initiative to save birds. “We are going to instal bird feeder jars in different parks, schools, hospitals, etc. so that birds can get food all the time. If we try to save the birds together, then no bird will die in future without grain,” Mr Thapla opined. He also called upon the people to take part in this small initiative and tell the coming generations that birds are an integral part of the ecosystem, which will go a long way in preserving the environment.
