Port Blair, Nov 07: An Awareness Workshop on Jute Diversified Products (JDPs) sponsored by National Jute Board (NJB), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Kolkata & organised by Jute Service Centre (JSC)-Port Blair in collaboration with A & N Consultancy Centre (ANCON) & in association with Beodnabad Gram Panchayat, DIC, NCUI, KVIB & A & N State Co-operative Bank was held at Community Hall of Beodnabad Gram Panchayat on Friday, November 02, 2012. More than 70 persons participated in the programme which included women, educated unemployed youth and members of SHGs.
Speaking on the occasion Ms. Maimuna, Pradhan, Beodnabad Gram Panchayat,urged the participants to sincerely participate in the programme and make best use of it and also requested ANCON and other govt. agencies to provide all support.
Earlier briefing the gathering about the programme Er. Johnson Abraham, Sr. Manager & Jute Service Centre in charge, ANCON informed the role of ANCON in organizing such programmes in various parts of Port Blair & in the rural areas of South Andaman and the help that will be provided by ANCON after completion of the training programme. He also briefed about the programme in particular and also about the future training programmes wherein the beneficiaries will be getting skill upgradation in production of jute bags.
Mr. Jawahar Das, EI, DIC advised the participants to identify their strengths and take up an area in which they can excel. He also explained about the operation and activities of DIC and the marketing facilities being provided for MSME units by Directorate of Industries and KVIB.
Smt. M. T. Subbulakshmi, from A & N I KVIB informed about the various schemes of the Board viz. PMEGP Scheme for financing of projects, training programmes being organized by the Board & also marketing facilities being provided through KG Bhavans. She also urged the women to create an identity of their own which is possible by initiating economic activity and earning livelihood.
Mr. Surender Nath Singh, Project Officer, NCUI informed the gathering that in view of the fact that A & N Administration had banned plastic carry bags and this was right opportunity to be a change agent. Moreover, if we utilize jute bags instead of plastic then we will leave behind a healthier mankind and environment. He also highlighted the activities of NCUI.
Smt. Mani Malar, Dy. Manager, A & N State Co-operative Bank Ltd., also urged the participants to come forward with bankable proposals.
This was followed by a film on Jute Diversified Products which traced the origin of Jute and its traditional uses and later to Diversification of the jute material in different forms. The guests also browsed a Display of JDP items displayed at the venue.
This was followed by a lively interactive session in which many queries were raised about the JDPs by the participants and it was replied ably by the officials of Jute Service Centre.
Earlier Mr. A. K. Bhattacharjee, Advisor, ANCON welcomed the gathering & Mr. S. Chakraborty, Associate Consultant, ANCON delivered the vote of thanks.
