Port Blair, Aug 18: Entire Baratang region of Middle Andaman is troubled due to low voltage and power cuts since last several days.
“Due to low voltage, several electronic items like refrigerators and TVs are getting damaged, there is no mobile network since three days in South Creek area due to voltage issue in mobile towers and students studying online are the worst sufferers. How can one call Ambulance or Fire Brigade in case of any emergency?” questioned former Pradhan of Sundergarh Panchayat, Baratang, Mr. Biju Gurudasan.
Earlier two years back two private generators were sent to Baratang but those remain unutilized. Recently one was reportedly installed but that malfunctioned.
Now the residents of Baratang are receiving power supply from Rangat in daytime and in the evening hours power is provided by old DG set of Baratang but in both cases the voltage is unbelievably low.
Mockery is that during Independence Day speech the DFO of Baratang told residents of the region that after installation of new DG set, provided by private party, the voltage situation has improved Baratang region, which left many Islanders disappointed.
