Port Blair, Aug 18: Highlighting about some of the recent fatal accidents, where people have lost lives or properties due to falling of trees on residential areas, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma today requested the Lt. Governor to set up a task force, consisting of officials of Forest, Revenue, APWD Departments and fire Services to identify all trees, which are potential threats to human life and properties.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor the Member of Parliament mentioned that Andaman and Nicobar Islands receive two monsoons viz northeast monsoon and the southwest monsoon. Other than this, formation of depression, low pressure and cyclones around Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a common phenomenon, because of which the threat of falling trees on houses, increases manifold.
He suggested that this task force should be given responsibilities to submit reports in time bound manner and cut trees whichever are becoming a threat for people, so that in future no one dies because of falling of trees.
The Member of Parliament also requested the Lt. Governor to set up an emergency control room to register complaints from the public in this regard so that identification of dangerous trees becomes easy and precise.
He mentioned that every life lost in such accidents is unfortunate and therefore he requested the Lt. Governor to declare compensation to each family, which fell victim of such tree falling incident in recent past.
