Port Blair, Aug 02: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Rural Livelihood Mission (ANIRLM) under Directorate of RD, PRI’s and ULB’s, A&N Administration, Port Blair intending to promote Rural Self Help Groups have organized “SHG SUNDAY MARKET” in the Panchayat Hall of Gram Panchayat Beodnabad on 01.08.2021 from 09:00 AM onwards.
The said Market was inaugurated in presence of SmtiP.Aruna, Block Development Officer, C.D.BlockProthrapur and Smti.LalitaTigga, Block Development Officer attached to Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULB’s, A&N Administration, Marine Hill, Port Blair along with the DAY-NRLM Staff of State Level. Both the Block Development Officers motivated the SHG Members to come forward and participate in the SHG Market actively for the sale of their products and also requested the SHG women to increase their productivity as the ANILRM has planned to organize SHG Weekend Market/ SHG Market in all the Blocks of this UT.
In the aforesaid Market, the Self Help Groups formed under DAY-NRLM in Gram Panchayat Beodnabad, Calicut and Sippighat have been provided with the opportunity to showcase and sell their handmade products i.e. Bakery items, Vegetables, pickles, soft toys, Bamboo & Cane, local Spices, coir products, poultry products etc. Total 12 SHG Groups formed under DAY-NRLM participated in the aforesaid market and within three hours, the SHG members had sold products approximately to a tune of Rs.15,000/-.
The SHG Market has drawn a lot of public attention and people were seen thronging the Market for the purchase of SHG products i.e. local spices, vegetables poultry products, coir products etc. These Self Help Groups are promoted under the Government of India programme DeenDayalAntyodyaYojana National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) implemented by the Department of Rural Development. The platform provided to the Self Help Groups is turning out to be a great way to enhance the rural economy.
Under the Guidance of Secretary (RD/ Panchayat) and Director (RD/Panchayat), the ANIRLM has also planned to organize SHG Weekend Market/ Sunday Market every month in all the Blocks of this UT to promote and strengthen the network of SHGs, following COVID-19 protocols issued by the Administration and adopting COVID appropriate behaviour.
