Port Blair, July 26: National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) scheme is focused on promoting self-employment among the rural unemployed. The basic idea behind this program is to organize the poor into SHG (Self Help Groups) and make them capable of self-employment.
Smt. Bariyo Roy of Rudhra Self Help Group under Diglipur Block, North & Middle Andaman district belongs to a very poor background. She joined the group about 1.5 years ago. She availed loan from SHG to start some activities to earn some income and help her family. She purchased a sewing machine and started stitching at home. At present, she is earning a sufficient amount to support her husband to sustain her family’s financial needs. But now she desires to open a small shop in the market area from which she can gain new opportunities. For this, she intends to get training as assistance from NRLM to modernize her sewing styles.
She expressed her gratitude towards the Department of Rural Development that she had fulfilled her dreams, and it couldn’t have been possible if she was not in an SHG group.
NRLM, will provide handholding support to the rural women in all possible ways by enrolling them with the line departments like RSETI, in order to facilitate their training, improve their capabilities to empower them and strengthen women prosperity.
