Port Blair, Apr 01: Recently as many as 20 labourers from Jharkhand have been tested COVID-19 positive at Port Blair on 30 March 2021, before going to Campbell Bay. Surprisingly these 20 labourers out of the batch of 43 labourers had brought RTPCR negative report with them, while entering Port Blair from Kolkata, which raises questions over the authenticity of RTPCR tests being conducted at Mainland for incoming passengers.
Now it has been learnt that the District Magistrate of South Andaman, has issued a show cause notice of employer of these labourers.
“The labourers have travelled all the way from Kolkata and had symptoms of ILI/ SARI which was not reported by you,” the District Magistrate wrote in the notice.
The DM also noted that the employer have failed to adhere to the instruction contained in the orders and guidelines issued by the Ministry and local Administration in letter and spirit thereby risking the lives of islanders at large and therefore the District Magistrate, South Andaman District has asked for a written explanation from the employer in this regard.
The employer of the labourers have been directed to submit an explanation in writing, for failing to strictly enforce the instructions of the Ministry and Local Administration, within two days of receipt of the notice, without fail, otherwise the DM mentioned out that necessary action shall be initiated as per Disaster Management Act and provisions under relevant Acts/rules.
