Port Blair, Mar 15: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands wrote to the Lieutenant Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands regarding the pressing need for having well equipped and established Secondary and Tertiary health care facilities in the Islands as also to fulfill the need and aspirations of many MBBS doctors of the Islands and the undergraduate medical students passing out from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ Institute of Medical Science ( ANIIMS) to pursue Post Graduation in various specialized Clinical and Para- clinical courses.
Earlier, the matter of introduction of Post-Graduation courses in ANIIMS was taken up by Mr. Sharma with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In response, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare has conveyed that the matter of starting Postgraduate courses in ANIIMS by the forthcoming session 2021-2022 has been examined by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in consultation with the National Medical Commission (NMC) which is the apex body for regulating medical education.
National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken note of the need for Secondary and Tertiary care facilities in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and has assured Mr. Sharma that as and when the college applies for Postgraduate courses, the Commission shall duly process the same as per Regulations.
Mr. Sharma continuing his efforts has written to the Hon. Lieutenant Governor so that the Postgraduate Medical Courses like MD, MS., M.Ch. can start in ANIIMS at least by the academic session 2022-2023.
