Port Blair, Mar 12: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has requested the Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University to conduct exams for students of Andaman and Nicobar Islands in online mode.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi in his letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of Ponsicherry University has informed him that some parents of the students studying in various colleges of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has approached him and informed him that Pondicherry University has decided to conduct the examination of students in offline mode in the month of March 2021.
He further informed the Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University that colleges in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are imparting education in Online Mode for all students except the first year students due to restrictions in movement. He further informed that a UGC guideline has made it mandatory that there should be no sharing of rooms in hostels which makes it difficult for colleges to accommodate students in the hostel.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi apprised the Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University that if the exams of the university is held in offline mode then students from other Islands will have to come to Port Blair and make arrangements for their stay outside which may be risky during the pandemic and will also put additional financial burden on their families.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi in his letter requested the Vice Chancellor to conduct the exams online as it was done in the last semester. He further suggested that if exams are to be conducted offline then it may be conducted in the inter-Islands too under the supervision of DC/AC/Tehsildar.
Mr.Ajoy Bairagi further spoke to Mr. Gurmeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, Pondicherry University over phone today and apprised him of the situation. Mr. Ajoy Bairagi insisted that the exams be conducted online for students of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University finally agreed to conduct the exams of the students from Andaman and Nicobar Islands online after knowing the ground realities from the State President of Bharatiya Janata Party.
