Port Blair, Feb 07: Celebration came too early for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as just five day after the local Administration recorded zero active COVID-19 cases in the Union Territory, six people have been tested COVID-19 positive,3 three eaach on Friday and Saturday. The news of achieving this milestone of zero active Covid-19 case on 01, Feb 2021, spread like wild fire in all over India and several media units declared Andaman and Nicobar Islands a first territory to be free from COVID-19. But now it seems that was too early to celebrate.
With this new six cases, altogether 5000 people have been tested COVID-19 positive in Andaman and Nicobar Islands till now, out of which 4932 people have recovered while 62 deaths have been reported because of COVID-19 till now.
At present there are only six active cases in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which were detected on Friday and Saturday and all six cases were from contacts, which indicates that there might be a few more undetected cases.
Earlier on May 07 2020 and 16 April 2020, Andaman and Nicobar Administration had recorded the rare feat of achieving Zero COVID19 status for the second and first time respectively but again some COVID-19 cases were reported on later dates.
Andaman and Nicobar Administration is still maintaining very high testing rate, which is 583993 test per million.
It is expected that the President of India might visit Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 24 February, considering this the new cases of COVID-19 in Andaman will certainly be a major cause of concern for the local Administration.
