Port Blair, Nov 18: In 1985, by an Act of Parliament, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was established as a Central University, with national and international jurisdiction. Started with few thousand students in its initial period, now meets the educational needs of millions of people; thus emerged as ‘People’s University’. Being one of the mega universities in the world, now the impact of IGNOU is felt at every corner of our Country. The success of IGNOU in reaching the ‘unreached’ sections of India is a great achievement in higher education of our Country. The Port Blair – Regional Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), has reached the unreached population and provided higher education to nearly 60,000 Students of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, in 100 varieties of Courses. Having completed a decade, the Regional Centre of IGNOU at Port Blair, is celebrating the 35th Foundation Day of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at its premises on 19th November, 2020.
