Port Blair, Nov 04: Dozens of students and parents of Kadamtala region who are living inside containment zone area of the region today reached near the barricade and demanded permission to go to school. Sources said that the police guards and revenue staffs, as per COVID-19 protocol, did now allow them to come out of containment zone and tried to explain them about the protocol in this regard.
Later fuming students and parents sat on a protest blocking the ATR for nearly 30 minutes.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, Mr .Taranga Kumar Dhali, Chairperson, UTCPCR, A&N Islands said that he also received calls from students who desperately wanted to go to school (which is open since 2nd November) but are not allowed to go to school due to containment zone restrictions.
“Students, especially those who are in class X and class XII were desperate because in Kadamtala area neither there is proper broadband connectivity nor there are proper 2G or 3G connectivity and hence students are unable to take benefit of online classes. Now when regular classes have started they were not allowed to attend the classes due to containment zone restrictions,” Mr. Dhali said.
As per Mr. Dhali, later when the matter was taken up with the AC Rangat, it was decided that especial passes will be provided to the students of containment zone by the district administration and with the passes from tomorrow students of Kadamtala’s containment zones will be allowed to attend online classes but separate classes will be arranged for these students. After this decision was conveyed to the students the protest was withdrawn.
