Nancowry, October 21: Three Covid-19 cases have been reported from Teressa Island of Nicobar District today.
As per details, a lady was earlier found to be Covid-19 positive today and when further information was collected it was found that her two children are also infected with corona virus.
Sources confirmed that all the Covid-19 positive patients have been shifted to CHC Nancowrie and the district Administration has initiated contact tracing works.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District, Mr Kishore Kshirsagar Laxman, he said that all the COVID-19 positive patients were immediately shifted to the CHC Nancowrie because the CHC is well equipped to handle the COVID-19 cases.
These cases were detected during random tests, conducted by the Nicobar District Administration.
Regarding the challenges for the remote island, the Deputy Commissioner said that, there is a PHC in Teressa Island but as a precautionary measure, the patients were shifted to CHC Nancowrie because the doctors have already treated Covid-19 positive cases earlier, thus they are well versed in handling, the corona positive patients.
Mr Laxman further said that one containment zone will be set up in the Teressa Island.
Regarding the restrictions on traveling he said that already restrictions are imposed on travelling. Very few people may have visited Teressa Island recently, added Mr Laxman.
He also informed that there is no movement of speedboats unless it is an emergency.
While concluding Mr Laxman said that there are a total of seven active cases in the whole Nicobar District, wherein Car Nicobar has four active cases and now three cases are in Nancowry Island.
