Port Blair, October 20: The General Secretary of Kesariya Hindu Vahini, A&N Unit has requested the Lieutenant Governor of A&N islands, Admiral (Retd.) D K Joshi to setup Cardiac Cath Lab in GB Pant Hospital.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, Mr Saurabh Singh, the General Secretary of Keshariya Hindu Vahini of A & N Unit mentioned that there is a high prevalence of heart diseases in A&N islands. More than 90 % of heart patients move to mainland for angiography and other services.
Every month around 30 or more patients are being referred to the mainland hospitals for further evaluation and treatment. Many deaths have occurred due to the lack of cardiac ICU and supportive care like Temporary pacemaker. In the current time of Covid-19 outbreak patients are hesitant to travel and face lot of hassle pertaining to their lodging and boarding in mainland who move for treatment.
