Rangat, October 20: After a Shopkeeper of BJP Chowk or Rangat area was tested Corona positive yesterday, the authorities of the region declared the area from Hawa Mahal to Rangat Bridge as containment zone, leaving some people of the area fuming.
After the order was implemented today, a group of people, mostly shopkeepers and auto as well as jeep drivers, gathered in front of the Assistant Commissioner’s Office and demanded to call back the decision.
According to people, such lockdown during festival season will cause them huge loss.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, a shopkeeper said that a few days back when the Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Rangat was tested positive, the aforementioned area was declared containment zone, and now again after a shopkeeper was tested positive the entire area has been declared containment zone, which according to him is not justified.
The public also alleged that the shopkeeper who was tested positive, his building wasn’t brought under the containment zone, as many officers of the administration stay there, then why was the entire area, where he works, brought under the containment zone?
Even after the day-long protest, the Assistant Commissioner of the region stood firm on the decision and informed the people that the containment zone of the aforementioned area will remain active for a week.
Taking note of this, the protestors have finally called off the protest but have reportedly wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary to remove the containment zone in the area by highlighting their genuine problems being faced by the people.
