Port Blair, October 15: A group of grassroot leaders of Little Andaman have written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman highlighting some major issues of Little Andaman Island which includes connectivity, transportation and medical facilities etc.
In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman some grassroot leaders of Little Andaman have listed out various issues of the region such as confinement of containment zones to the places where the COVID patients are/ were present and the remaining places be opened so that the general public may not face any trouble.
Secondly, the boat service should be commenced immediately because a lot of people are stranded in Little Andaman and Port Blair, among whom most of the people are patients, expecting women and students.
The letter said that some of the stranded people are also applicants who have to attend the interviews in various departments and inter – Island.
“The students who have to attend their counseling and college exams and some students who are going to join colleges in mainland are also stuck here,” the letter added.
Thirdly regular helicopter services should be provided to Little Andaman especially for the serious patients and expecting women. Further it was stated that today at PHC, R.K Pur a pregnant lady and her child passed away due to no proper facility. If a helicopter or boat was provided then both the lives could have been saved.
The grassroot leaders also threatened to go for strike if these demands are not fulfilled. This letter was also addressed to the Member of Parliament, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma and the letter was signed by Sima Sarkar, Ex Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Little Andaman, Anita Mondal, Zilla Parishad, R.K. Litle Andaman, Asamanja Halder, Ex Pradhan, Gram Panchayat R.K. Pur, Little Andaman, Gopal Ganguli, Ex Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Rabindra Nagar Little Andaman and S. Raja Ex ,Up-Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Litle Andaman.
