Port Blair, Oct 14: Eight new quarters constructed at GMSSS Hut Bay Campus for teachers have not been allotted yet to teachers, even after nearly two years as only electric works are not completed due to sheer negligence of authorities.
Many teachers at Hut Bay are allegedly forced to live in private accommodations and some are forced to live in dilapidated type-I quarters, which are already marked for demolition, at Hut Bay due to shortage of government accommodation.
Sources said that non-completion of electrical wiring works inside these quarters is the main reason for non-allotment of these quarters but insiders imformed that some teachers are in such a need of government accommodation that they are also ready to pay for the electric wiring themselves just to get a quarter.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted the Vice Principal of the school, nearly one month back, she mentioned that the school management is taking up this issue with APWD continuously but when asked about any documental proof, she failed to provide any. Moreover the Vice Principal told this press that within 10 days the electric works will begin but when the electric works did not start and Andaman Sheekha called back the school, Andaman Sheekha was told that the Vice Principal has already retired.
Now it seems that again for atleast another one year the electric works for the eight quarters will not be completed and teachers of the school will be forced to live in private accommodations and old dilapidated quarters. Hope the Administration will take note of this negligence and take immediate action against officials who are responsible for this loss to government and inconvenience to teachers.
