Port Blair, Oct 13: At the call of the CITU Centre, New Delhi, Protest Demonstration was held at Port Blair today to protest against the rape and brutal murder of the Dalit girl in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh and the all-out efforts being made by the BJP-led State Government to protect the culprits. The protest demonstration was also against the atrocities against Dalits, women and other socially oppressed sections in the country. A large number of workers, including a good number of women workers, belonging to various trade unions under the CITU assembled at the Tiranga Park, Aberdeen Bazar, Port Blair in the evening with candle lights and demonstrated against these atrocities.
Addressing the gathering, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee explained in brief the attack on the Dalits, minorities and other weaker sections in the country with the blessings of the ruling parties and condemned the BJP-led central government for not taking any effective steps to contain it. While on the one hand atrocities are committed on the Dalits, minorities and women and other socially weaker sections, on the other, people protesting against such heinous crimes are targeted by the ruling parties. Shri R. Surendran Pillai, President and SP Kailairajan, Vice President of CITU State Committee also addressed the gathering.
