Port Blair, Oct 11: The 05 days long bamboo making training for the members of SHGs formed under DAY-NULM concluded on 10th October 2020. The training programme was conducted by Port Blair Municipal Council in collaboration with ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, CIARI at Sippighat .
Dr. B.A.Jerard, Director CIARI was graced the occasion as Chief Guest, DR. L.B.Singh Senior Scientist, Dr. Harapriya Nayak , Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) and Sh. Muthu Kumar, Project Officer, (PBMC) were present.
Dr, B.A.Jerard distributed the certificates to all participants and wished them to convert the learning into realistic goals as there is a prospective of eco- friendly products in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The Senior Scientist elaborated about the role of KVK – CIARI in urban areas and spoken about all possible assistances that can be spare for SHGs of urban areas and also lauded that the bamboo straw technology developed by ICAR-KVK is the best substitute in lieu of plastic straw
In the occasion the Project Officer PBMC also presented the key note of Secretary, PBMC (Mission Director DAY-NULM) before the participants and ensured to extend all possible assistances to SHGs members and in marketing their products and handholding the SHGs uplifting them in the economic ladder.
